The only integrated telecom service provider in the Kingdom, Orange Jordan recently announced its highly awaited 3G+ network. This network is the first of its kind in the entire Kingdom. Initially, this network will deliver services to some selected areas in Zarqa, Irbid and Amman. It will then gradually expand to reach the more populous areas of the Kingdom.
The Minister for ICT of Jordan, Marwan Juma, said that the introduction of this particular network is a huge milestone in the Jordanian telecom revolution. He mentioned that this would create more ICT prospects for the Kingdom.
The Chairman of the Board of Directors for JTC, Shabib Ammari, said that the launch of this network helped in realizing the dream seen by His Majesty, King Abdullah the 2nd in which he saw Jordan being an active hub in advanced telecom technology.
The CEO for Orange Jordan, Nayla Khawam, respected the statements made by Shabib Ammari by saying that Orange Jordan had always thought of realizing the dreams seen by His Majesty. This 3G+ network will boost internet penetration in the Kingdom and help realize the goal of achieving 50% internet penetration in the Kingdom by the end of 2011. It will end up giving service to about 2 million people by the end of 2011.
On the subject of pricing, Khawam mentioned that Orange Jordan will not be raising the prices for voice calling and SMS for those people who will be switching to the new 3G+ network. She also said that the network will be rendering some new services like personalized and live TV, mobile broadband and video conferencing. She mentioned that all these services will be rendered at price that is very reasonable. She emphasized that it was important for Orange to ensure that its subscribers enjoy all the services rendered by it. The launching conference also comprised of a live demo of all 3G technologies.
