T-Mobile’s new Garminfone is suitable for the persons who are looking for directions. T-Mobile USA and Garmin International launched the Garminphone which includes navigation software. T-Mobile, therefore has acquired the exclusive rights to sell the first smartphone which is powered with Android, in the US, as it is the exclusive carrier for the phone.
The Garminfone, according to the company officials will be available later this spring. The device has a music player, 3-megapixel camera and a 3.5-inch screen. It also supports instant messaging, social networking, YouTube, Gmail, Google Maps. George Harrison, vice president of marketing product innovation at T-Mobile said that busy people are increasingly opting for smartphones to balance up their professional and personal lives. And with the deep integration of the Garmin navigation into the device will help the busy people to do more than navigate their lives.
There is also a feature integrated in the navigation system that enables users to navigate to the destination by clicking on it from web page, e-mail, a calendar appointment or a text message. The device also aids the users to navigate back to their car. The navigation system also consists of voice and on-screen directions as well as automatic rerouting feature. The phone uses a text-to-speech technology and announces the name of the street.
The camera comes with geotags images which includes longitudes and latitudes so that users can navigate back to where the photos were taken. Other applications such as local events, gas, weather and prices are also built in the Garminfone. It is the first phone to feature an Android app known as Garmin Voice Studio that helps in recording and sharing personal voice directions from others.
This move from T-Mobile comes as a slow move, as the Garminfone is launched in the market just 2 months after Garmin and partner ASUS unveiled the Nuvifone, which consists of navigation feature similar to Garminfone. Even Google’s latest device called Android 2.1 consists of Android operating system, Motorola Droid and the HTC Nexus One, consists of similar feature.
The pricing of the Garminfone has not been announced yet, but the spokesperson said that T-Mobile will provide the updates.
