Over twenty four operators and 2 to 3 manufacturers got together to make it comparatively simpler for developers of apps to create apps across numerous networks. Known as the Wholesale Applications Community, it is an eleventh-hour plan prepared by the GSMA and calls for the group to produce an extensive ecosystem for all kinds of apps and complement various developer associations to make a single point of entry for developers to create applications for all the operators.
Numerous operators from America are implicated in this initiative. This includes Sprint Nextel, Verizon Wireless and AT&T Mobility. This group also comprises of numerous sellers like LG, Sony Ericsson and Samsung.
Details of the GSMA board meeting are hard to come by as the group was formed recently. The chief strategy officer of GSMA, Alex Sinclair depicted it initially as a widget approach. He said that the initiative behind the group’s formation was that they wanted to make the movement across platforms much simpler. He also added that the group wouldn’t be at odds with others like the Bondi initiative and the Joint Innovation Labs.
Precisely what this will mean for other prominent developer groups is still very unclear. Alex Sinclair also mentioned that the involvement of 24 members in this group is simply a start. Numerous other prominent companies are anxious to join in as well. He stated that he was very particular in emphasizing the fact that the motive behind this is to be open and transparent. Alex Sinclair also added that this would not be an apps shop. The WAC group, even now, looks forward to the respective operators to sell their own apps in their own way. He emphasized that this was all about getting the developers to connect with each other. It is about wholesale.
