Vodafone has increased the number of discussions with its prominent U.S. partner, Verizon Wireless in an effort to resume payment of dividends by Verizon Wireless in their rapidly growing American joint venture.
In the past few weeks, both the companies have conducted wide ranging talks intended to break the stalemate over the bright future of Verizon Wireless. Vodafone owns 45% stake of the American telecom giant whereas Verizon wireless owns the remaining 55 % stake.
Even though it adds to a third of Vodafone’s in service profits, Verizon Wireless has blocked all payments of dividends since 2005.
Telefónica is looking for closer incorporation between its fixed line phone business in Brazil and a mobile operator based in São Paulo which it mutually manages with Portugal Telecom, as the telecoms group from Spain is putting efforts to prop up its weakening position in Brazil.
America Movil, the center of multi billionaire, Carlos Slim's telecommunications kingdom, is in the process of taking over Carso. The deal is valued at above $24 billion which will give America Movil admittance to fixed line operations managed by Telmex Internacional SAB unit of Carso Global. This deal will also give America Movil a substantial managing stake in Telmex, the biggest fixed line operator in Mexico.
